Jamboree 1937 vogelenzang

OPROEP:
"de 1ste strofe was:"In negentien drie zeven, dan zul je wat beleven, dan
komt de jamboree naar Nederland etc., etc. De 2e strofe begon dus:"Piet
Gerritsen van Dongen, 'n Amsterdamse jongen, met biethaar en met
sproeten in 't gelaat ........" De rest van de woorden ben ik
vergeten. Kan iemand mijn geheugen opvrissen? Bij voorbaat hartelijke
dank. Herbert Weil, sinds 1946 in Engeland woonend, nu 'n oude grijzaard!."

JAMBOREE-LIED

In negentien-drie-zeven
dan zal je wat beleven
dan komt de Jamboree in Nederland.
Dan staat uit alle landen
van alle rang en standen
de jeugd van blank en bruin hier hand en hand.
Dan zingen scouts uit Labrador, Japan en Alkmaar
op 't Nederlandsche grondgebied heel vroolijk met elkaar!

A Scout meets Scout as bother,

You'll hear them whistle all the while
That trouble is about.

5TH WORLD JAMBOREE - Vogelenzang, Holland, 1937
This Jamboree is remembered more particularly as the last Jamboree
Baden-Powell was able to attend before his death in January 1941. Queen Wilhelmina opened
the Jamboree and before her were assembled 27,000 Scouts from 51 countries - including
8,000 from the British Commonwealth. Baden-Powell was 81 when he attended the Jamboree
and in his message to Scouts of the world, he said:

"I ... am nearing the end of my life. Most of you are at the beginning ,
and I want your lives to be happy and successful. You can make them d=so by doing your
best to carry out the Scout Law all your days, whatever your station and wherever
you are ... Now goodbye. God bless you all! God bless you!"

It was as though he knew he would not be able to attend another Jamboree and
was giving his blessing to the Scouts of all nations.
